As the summer season winds down and we store away our warm-weather items, it's the perfect time to start thinking ahead to the upcoming holidays. With Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas just around the corner, getting organized now can save you a lot of stress and last-minute scrambling later. Preparing for the holidays in September and October might seem early, but it’s a proactive step towards a smoother, more enjoyable holiday season. By taking the time to sort through your holiday decorations and supplies now, you'll set yourself up for a festive and stress-free holiday season.
Prepare Your Holiday Decorations Early
When you’re putting away your summer gear, take the opportunity to pull out all of your winter holiday decorations as well. This is the perfect time to go through all your Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas items. Sort through your decorations and identify any that are broken, outdated, or no longer suit your style. Toss any broken decorations and consider donating any that are in good condition (that you no longer need or want) to a local charity thrift store. Many people rely on thrift stores for affordable holiday decor, so your donations can make a big difference.
Test Your Holiday Lights and Inventory Supplies
One of the biggest headaches during holiday decorating is discovering that your lights don’t work. Avoid this stress by testing all your holiday lights now. Replace any faulty strands while stores are still well-stocked, and you won’t have to interrupt your decorating later to hunt for replacements.
Additionally, inventory any other supplies you might need, such as batteries for decorations, hooks for hanging items, and any special tools required for setup. Make a list and purchase these items now, so everything is ready when you start decorating.
Create a Plan and Set Up Your Schedule
Once your decorations are sorted and your supplies are inventoried, take a few moments to create a plan for your decorating, your holiday shopping, and party events. Decide which decorations will go where and create a schedule for when you will start decorating. Establish a budget and create your holiday gift list. While your at it, think about the meals you'll need to prepare during the holidays. By having a plan in place, you can spread out the tasks over a few weeks, making the process more manageable and less overwhelming. This approach also allows you to enjoy the holiday season more, as you won’t be rushed or stressed trying to do everything at once.
